The Houses

The 12 astrological houses divide the birth chart into 12 areas of life. Every house has a natural ruler (a sign it resonates with) and governs a specific sphere of experience.

The four Angular houses are the most powerful — they sit at the cardinal points of the chart (the Ascendant, IC, Descendant, and Midheaven). Planets placed here make a strong statement in the native's life.

1st House — House of Self

The 1st house begins at the Ascendant (Rising sign) and governs your identity, physical body, outward personality, and the first impression you make on the world. It is the mask you wear and how you instinctively approach new beginnings. Planets here are very prominent in your life.

4th House — House of Home

The 4th house governs roots, family, ancestors, home, and emotional foundations. It describes your upbringing, your relationship with the past, and the private inner sanctuary you create for yourself. The IC (Imum Coeli) marks the 4th house cusp — the most private point in the chart.

7th House — House of Partnership

Directly opposite the 1st, the 7th house governs one-on-one partnerships — marriage, committed relationships, and significant business partners. It also shows open enemies and what we project onto others (the qualities we don't own in ourselves). The Descendant marks the 7th house cusp.

10th House — House of Vocation

The 10th house governs career, public reputation, legacy, and your highest achievement. The Midheaven (MC) marks its cusp — the most visible point in the chart, representing how the world sees you at your peak. Planets in the 10th house often describe public-facing themes that define your life's work.
